In the current version of Alambic, we hide Window's style, and we created our own style (with the minimize, maximize and close button).
I was thinking this might be not the right way to do. If we want to provide a great user experience, we should have Alambic's GUI integrates as much as possible with the rest of the apps, and the OS.
For example, when we use Windows Vista, we have a transparent top bar, this is nice and I think we should not removed it. On the contrary, I think we should respect that, and try to mix up user theme with Alambic theme.
What do you think ?

I think it's better to base on the Windows theme. (the "BasedOn" keyword is your friend). It allows us to have a base and to be prepared to switch to a newer version of Windows and have the newest features of the controls (if there are improvements), in some years...
and i think it is much easier to maintain.
BUT... I have not seen the code ![]()

To illustrate what I'm talking about, here are 2 screenshots.
The first one shows current version of Alambic running on Windows XP, I added a "normal" application (I mean with default style) to show the difference:
Here is a Vista screenshot:
What I want to show is the fact that we should try to have a good "integration" between Alambic and the rest of the OS. If the OS is Vista, we should have the Vista's default windows style. If Vista uses green color scheme, Alambic should use this green color scheme too. The same apply if it XP.
Am I clear enough ? What do you think ?

i see
i keep my vote for the Windows theme: easier to integrate, less risks: we are not graphic designers... the design will have to be worked over and over again, and it will soon be old-fashioned (see Winamp today... skinnable but SO ugly
(sorry))
Moreover, it is possible to use Aero theme (except window borders) with XP too. That seems to be a good compromise: Windows design, but Aero theme. Can evolve, integrated, and customizable.

I agree, too....maybe a skin mode could be created later on(e.g. putting graphics in buttons or kinda that), but I think there are more other things to do yet
